In Cyprus, 379 children live without their parents. 222 of them are migrants who arrived on the island unaccompanied by adults from countries and territories embroiled in military conflicts. Another 157 children were withdrawn from families in Cyprus by the decision of social services. The reason is cases of violence or lack of adequate supervision. 85 of them live on temporary basis in foster families, the remaining 72 - in orphanages. These are the data voiced during the meeting of the parliamentary committee on human rights.
The database of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security shows 111 Cypriot families who have been tested and can take the children seized from their parents for the time being. The state pays the allowance for foster children to such families.
