The chain of supermarkets Lidl Cyprus announced the termination of sales of a number of disposable plastic products by the end of 2019. The company said it would also take other measures to reduce the use of plastics by 20% to 2025.
The ban on the sale, in the first place, will concern disposable drinking tubes, cups and cups, plates, cutlery and ear sticks in all 17 stores on the island. It is expected that these goods will be replaced by analogues made from "alternative and recyclable materials." Lidl Cyprus called its next goal the refusal to use plastic straws on juices and other beverages.
