On Thursday, 9 August, hundreds of small turtles of two kinds hatched on the beach of Cyprus Lara Bay (Lara Bay) - Caretta Caretta and Greens.
This is a joyful event, which all the inhabitants of the island have been waiting for for months! Few lucky enough to see this beautiful spectacle, but those lucky ones who could see them, were completely ecstatic!
Recall that Lara Bay in Akamas - one of the few places in the Mediterranean Sea, which is planted sea turtles Caretta-Caretta and Green Turtles for laying eggs. The hatching period for the turtles of these two species begins in August and lasts until the end of September.
Lara Bay beach is protected by the state and is a beach-preserve. Recently, the population of sea turtles in the Mediterranean Sea is very meager - according to fresh data on the Lara beach they lay eggs near 100 green turtles and about 300 turtles Caretta, they are Bighead turtles. Therefore, the state and volunteers are doing everything possible to protect the clutch of turtles and increase their population.
Last year, turtles appeared on the light- 28 August, this year a little earlier.
