In the evening on Sunday, 5 August, 8-year-old girl with very high temperature and dehydration was delivered to the Central Hospital of Limassol. According to the parents, the girl did not eat or drink for two days. She was taken without a line and hospitalized. In 22: 00, her foreign mother insisted on taking the child home, and signed documents that she was taking responsibility. At two o'clock in the morning she returned her daughter to the hospital in a coma.
Monday morning, 6 August, despite all the efforts of doctors, the girl died. The autopsy showed that the original assumptions about the causes of the child's death - septic shock - were confirmed. If the girl stayed in a medical institution and received the necessary treatment (a dropper with antibiotic and antipyretic), with a high degree of probability it can be argued that she would be alive.
The pathologist, Eleni Antoniou, who conducted the autopsy, said that the girl had health problems that aggravated the course of the disease and led to death.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus told the Cyprus News Agency that "the doctors followed all the prescriptions and there is no question of medical negligence". Police Limassol is investigating this case.
According to the law adopted in 2004, the treatment of a minor can only be carried out with the consent of the parents / guardians who have the right to refuse it. In such cases, physicians are powerless, and if common sense does not prevail, it remains to hope for a miracle ...
