Last Thursday, Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiadis opened a new passenger terminal DP World Limassol in the port of Limassol.
The official opening ceremony was also attended by Minister of Transport, Communications and Public Works of Cyprus Vasiliki Anastasiadu, Mayor of Limassol Nikos Nikolaidis, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of DP World Group Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.
At the opening of the terminal, which will allow the world's largest cruise liners to visit Cyprus for the first time, there were about 300 guests. The terminal, consisting of seven sections with a total area of 8205 sq. M. m, provides passengers with world-class service. It provides for work both as a port of call and a base port. At the same time, the eastern wharf of length 480 m and depth of 11 m is able to receive the largest cruise ships in the world.
The terminal is divided into a cruise, oil and gas and trade zone, which allows the operator of the multipurpose terminal in the port of Limassol to DP World Limassol to offer additional services and operations supporting the economy of Cyprus.
The oil and gas area of 100 000 square. m with 430-meter berth has all necessary permits, including those related to environmental protection. Currently, the zone is loaded to 30% and was used by ENI during a recent successful offshore drilling campaign on the Cyprus shelf. Exxon Mobile, which plans to begin exploration of hydrocarbons in the near future, has also chosen the DP World Limassol terminal as its logistics base.
