23 July in Nicosia, the grand opening of the Japanese Embassy in Cyprus was held. From the Land of the Rising Sun, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazuyuki Nakane arrived on the island of Aphrodite. In the ceremony, the President and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, the Foreign Minister of Japan and the Ambassador of Japan in Nicosia participated, wearing traditional Japanese clothes and "armed" with wooden hammers.
The President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis stated that "this is a turning point in the history of relations between the two peoples." According to the head of state, the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Tokyo will be open until the end of 2018. Anastassiadis invited Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe to visit Cyprus. The parties agreed on expanding cooperation in the areas of tourism, trade, investment, culture and maritime navigation.
Both Cyprus and Japan are surrounded on all sides by the sea. The difference is that Cyprus is one island, and Japan is located on 6852 islands.
