On Saturday morning, 25 August, fishermen from Larnaka managed not only to see a small flock of dolphins, but also to capture this unique spectacle for Cyprus in the video!

As can be seen from the amateur video filming, which was shared by one of the fishermen, Antonis Hautris, dolphins sailed off the coast of the village of Alaminos, near Larnaca. It is worth noting that dolphins are not frequent visitors to Cyprus. From that, every meeting with them is a real holiday for the inhabitants of the island! Enjoy!

Recall that, according to the research of the "State Fishing Committee of Cyprus", on the island you can find the following types of dolphins:

  • Striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba), Received the name of the characteristic blue and white stripes on the flanks.
  • The gray dolphin (Grampus Griseus), Which is also called the Rissot dolphin in honor of Antoine Rissot, who described this species of mammals in detail.
  • Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncates)The most common species of dolphins in Cyprus. It occurs both in coastal waters in small groups and deep water in large schools.
  • Large-toothed dolphin (Steno bredanensis),which was named because of the kind of teeth that have a rough surface. For the first time this species of dolphins was seen near the beach of Lady's Mile in Limassol.
