President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis said on Monday that he informed Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General Jane Hall Lut that the country has already prepared for the resumption of negotiations on the unification of the island.
Jane Hall Lut on Monday visited Cyprus and held separate talks with the President of Cyprus, the leader of the Greek Cypriot community, Nicos Anastasiadis, and the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Mustafa Akyingji, after listening to their views on the resumption of negotiations on the unification of the country.
After the talks, Nikos Anastasiadis told reporters that he had informed Jane Hall Lut of the position that Cyprus was already ready to resume negotiations, interrupted in July 2017.
According to local media, Mustafa Akindzhi again confirmed to the special envoy of the UN Secretary General his position that any dialogue should be short-lived and be completed at a certain date.
Jane Hall Lut did not disclose the statements following the talks. 24 July, she will return to New York and inform the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres about the results of the talks with the leaders of the Greek and Turkish communities of Cyprus. After that, she will go to the countries of guarantors: Great Britain, Greece and Turkey, and also meet with EU officials to discuss with them issues related to the resumption of negotiations on the unification of Cyprus.
