16-year-old Iranian Datis Amirkalali received the passport of the Republic of Cyprus for outstanding mathematical abilities. For three consecutive years (2016, 2017 and 2018) he excels at the All-Cyprus Mathematical Olympiad.
Datis's achievements make him an example of not only academic excellence, but also the social integration of the migrant in Cyprus, "stated Minister of Internal Affairs Konstantinos Petridis, handing the passport to the Iranian teenager.
His family arrived in Cyprus in 2011 year. Since then, they have remained in the status of asylum-seekers. Since Datis is a minor, it was decided to issue a Cypriot passport and his mother Behnush Salhi. The decision was approved by the government.
