Loud headlines warmed up the already scandalous British press - according to sources, Russian submariners thwarted the British submarine strike in Syria. And although this version looks very complimentary for the Russian Navy, the real reason is, most likely, in another. And it is directly connected with the deplorable state of the once-legendary British fleet.

The British Astute nuclear submarine was unable to join the attack on Syria because of the actions of one or, possibly, two Russian submarines. This is reported by the British edition of the Times, referring to its sources. Russian submarines followed the British, forcing to change the location. As a result, the nuclear submarine at the time of the attack could not participate in the general attack on Syria.

According to the BBC, in the Saturday attack from the UK participated only four Tornado aircraft. They gave a volley with eight Storm Shadow missiles. The Astute submarine could help the attackers, although its arsenal does not exceed 20 Tomahawk cruise missiles. Astute is the most modern type of U-boat navy in the UK. At the moment there are only three such boats. British newspapers do not report the onboard number of the submarine, which became a party to the incident in the Mediterranean.

The Times supposes: Russian submarines pursuing Astute are either diesel-electric submarines of the 636 project "Varshavianka", or representatives of its earlier modification, the project 877 "Paltus", whose release was established in Soviet times. Because of the difficulty of detection, these submarines are called the "Black Holes" in the West.

If our sailors were ordered to stop the British submarine, it would have been carried out, even despite the presence of cruise missiles aboard the British submarine. This is the opinion of the chairman of the Fleet Support Movement, Captain I of the Reserve Mikhail Nenashev.

"Russian diesel submarines are primarily designed to destroy nuclear submarines of a probable enemy," Nenashev explained. According to him, modern diesel-electric boats have low noise - 45-50 decibel, which corresponds to the sound of the sea, so they can observe a more powerful submarine, remaining undetected.

In the Black Sea fleet there are six Varshavianoks: B-261 Novorossiysk, B-237 Rostov-on-Don, B-262 Stary Oskol, B-265 Krasnodar, B-268 Veliky Novgorod, B-271 "Kolpino". There is information that the submarine B-268 "Veliky Novgorod", B-271 "Kolpino", was still standing on the base in Tartus. In the fall, they took part in missile strikes against militant positions in Syria.

The president of the International Association of Public Organizations of Veterans of the Navy and Submariners, captain of the first rank in resignation Vladimir Mamaikin agrees that the Russian boat, due to low noise, could watch for some time the unsuspecting British.

"But if the British refused, then they heard our boat," Mamaikin suggested, reminding that the pursuit of foreign submarines is the task of any submarine.

"There is nothing like this, we are also being persecuted. But in this story, the very fact is very much in doubt. From our side, as they say, there were diesel submarines, and with the British - nuclear. But her speed is higher, she can give and 20 knots, the diesel boat is not able to follow it for a long time, "Mamaikin told VZGLYAD.

However, according to Mamaykin, if the Russian submarine pursued the English, it could not last more than an hour, since the Astute class boat is much more powerful and can "run away" easily. He is convinced that the information outlined in the British press is questionable.

However, there was a version that no "Varshavyanka" Englishmen did not pursue at all and they could not execute the order for another reason - for example, due to a technical malfunction. After all, Astute boats had problems before. "There were reports that such a submarine ran aground, there were reports that Portuguese fishermen caught it by nets, there were reports that one of the submarines damaged the wheelhouse, unsuccessfully diving under the dry-cargo ship. A certain evil rock pursues these boats of this type, "Aleksey Leonkov, editor of the magazine Arsenal of the Fatherland, admitted in an interview with Vesti.

Mamaikin does not exclude that the information about the "duel" was invented by the British to justify their non-participation in the operation. But the British had to justify themselves for not being able to take part in the volley in time. There is no other objective explanation for this, "Mamaykin believes. This version does not exclude that in the area there were indeed Russian submarines.

Nenashev also considers the version of a purely technical malfunction quite real.

"Perhaps the British had problems, and the possibility of using cruise missiles could lead to a catastrophe inside the submarine itself. To start the boat floats to the required depth, the systems are being prepared, the ballast is leveled, "Nenashev told VZGLYAD. - It is not excluded that it was at this moment that the British had problems. And to save face, they could allow information throwing. "

The legendary British fleet has been criticized for many years by British taxpayers.

In particular, not so long ago the British press criticized the Navy for the loss of its ability to accompany Russian ships passing the British shores. In order to track Russian submarines, the British Navy has to use even completely unmanned trawlers. And British Internet users and last year ridiculed "a nice little boat of the royal fleet near a large Russian ship." It remains to add that, according to the very same British press, most of the Royal Navy ships and because of the lack of resources can not go to sea.
