The European Union said only about the desire to increase the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the US, but not about the obligation to do so.
"The text (the joint statement of the EU and the US) says that the EU wants to import more LNG from the US to diversify energy supplies. The text does not say that the EU is obliged to import more LNG from the US, "an informed source said, RIA Novosti reported.
According to him, the joint statement is a declaration of intent, and the provisions written there will be fulfilled, "if there are conditions for that."
Earlier it became known that the EU delegation during talks with the head of the White House, Donald Trump in Washington, agreed to increase the import of liquefied natural gas and soybeans from the US, and to expand the admission of medical equipment to the domestic market of Europe.
German Economics Minister Peter Altmeier expressed the opinion that this would avoid a trade war and save millions of jobs.
