Israel decided not to fight with Belgium and Germany for the place of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2019-2020 years, inform news agencies.
These three countries claimed two seats in the Security Council from a group of Western European and "other" countries, but Israel decided to withdraw its candidacy, RIA Novosti reports citing Reuters.
According to Reuters, Israel has decided that it has little chance of taking its place in the UN Security Council.
Elections to the UN General Assembly will be held in June.
Recall, non-permanent members of the UN Security Council are elected on the principle of uniform regional representation of five groups. The "group of states of Western Europe and others" (28 countries) - two seats.
