The US does not exclude the imposition of sanctions against countries around the world for the purchase of Russian S-400 SAM systems, State Department spokesman Heather Nauert said.
"We are against the possible purchase by our partners and allies around the world of C-400," Nauert said at the briefing.
Asked whether sanctions could be introduced against other countries, in addition to Turkey, for the purchase of C-400, Naouert replied: "We made it clear that it could provoke sanctions around the world." The US in the past threatened Turkey with sanctions for such acquisitions.
She also expressed concern about the possible acceleration of the supply of C-400 to Turkey.
"If this is so ... it will bother us." When the NATO ally, like Turkey, uses C-400, it contradicts our policy, "Naouert said.
Rosoboronexport will start implementing a contract for the supply of C-400 complexes to Turkey in 2019, the head of the company Alexander Mikheev told journalists earlier.
The US declared a policy of "persuading" allies and partners to refrain from buying Russian weapons. According to US officials, they managed to prevent contracts worth billions of dollars. Against those countries that continue to buy Russian weapons, the United States threatens to apply sanctions.
