Cyprus Insurers' Insurance Fund

The fund of auto insurers was founded in 1969 year and unites all insurance companies providing motor third party liability insurance services in Cyprus. He deals with cases where the standard procedure for payment of compensation for one reason or another is not applicable.

Payments are provided in the event of an accident with:

- uninsured cars (injuries / death, car damage);
- Unknown cars (injuries / death, and in some cases property damage over 500 euros);
- cars insured in bankrupt companies;
- Cypriot cars abroad, in the member countries of the "green card" system;
- cars registered in one of the member countries of the "green card" system.

NO INSURANCE

You have an accident in Cyprus, it was not your fault, and the other car involved is not insured.

If the claim concerns only damage to your property:

- Notify the police and inform them that a car without insurance is involved in the accident.
- Notify the Fund of Motor Insurers that its representative conducts damage inspection - before starting any repair of damaged property.
- Fill in the appropriate form and submit it to the fund, accompanied by a certificate of registration of the car and an insurance policy valid at the time of the accident.

If the claim relates only to damage to health:

- Notify the police and inform them that a car without insurance is involved in the accident.
- Fill out the appropriate form and submit it to the fund, accompanied by all necessary medical certificates and conclusions, as well as relevant documents and evidence.

If the claim relates to damage to both property and health. Do all of the above.

UNKNOWN CAR

You have an accident in Cyprus, not through your own fault and do not have information about another participant in the accident:

- Call the police to inspect the scene of the accident or file an accident statement with the police within 48 hours after the incident.
- Notify the fund to investigate the causes of the accident.
- Fill in the appropriate form and submit it to the fund, accompanied by a certificate of registration of the car and an insurance policy valid at the time of the accident.

In the event of such an accident, you may be eligible for compensation from the fund if there has been damage to health or death. Under certain circumstances, compensation for pecuniary damage can be paid if it exceeds 500 euros (the first 500 euros you pay yourself).

VEHICLE WITH FOREIGN ROOMS

You have an accident in Cyprus not through your own fault, and the other car involved has a foreign registration:

- Call the police to inspect the place of the accident and draw up a protocol.
- Record the registration number of the foreign car and the country of its registration.
- Ask another driver to show his "green card" or insurance policy.
- As soon as possible, contact the Cyprus International Insurance Bureau (its role in Cyprus is carried out by the Fund of Motor Insurers).

If the insurance company of another driver has a representative office in Cyprus, you will be sent there. If there is no representation, then the bureau will take up the application.

Specialists of the bureau should inspect the damage to the car before the repair work is started. The driver must also fill in the standard application form, enclosing insurance documents and a certificate of registration of his car. If injuries have occurred, the application must be accompanied by the relevant medical documents.

INSURANCE OF "INACCURABLE RISK"

Any car owner who was refused insurance of his car in three companies can apply for help to the fund, providing documentary confirmation of the refusals, as well as copies of the driver's license and the certificate of registration of the car.

After that, the fund will send all insurance companies a request for insurance. They are required to give an answer (positive or negative) within 48 hours. If the fund receives at least one positive response, the applicant will be redirected to the relevant companies to conclude an insurance contract. Otherwise, the application will be submitted for insurance in a special fund (Cyprus Hire and Rejected Risks Pool), which insures public transport and "unacceptable risk".
