The President of Cyprus urged Turkey to recognize the genocide of the Pontic Greeks.
On Wednesday, 17 May, at the Larnaca Municipal Theater, the Pont-Cyprus: History and Pain conference was held, organized by the Pontic Youth Coordination Council of Cyprus. Speaking at the conference, the President of the Republic of Cyprus urged Turkey to recognize the genocide of 350 thousand Pontic Greeks.
"The world is achievable only if historical errors are acknowledged. This is necessary in order to avoid such tragedies in the future, "Nikos Anastasiadis said in his welcoming speech.
"I am here to remind you once again that we are on the side of the Pontians. We have common historical wounds and we will not allow Turks to change the national and religious character of our region, "the head of the Republic of Cyprus stressed.
Recall that Cyprus became the second country (after Greece), which 19 May 1994 year recognized the fact of the genocide of the Pontian Greeks and has since paid tribute to the memory of its victims.
