Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday made a visit to the base of Russian Air-Space Forces in Khmeimim, Latakia province.
The Syrian leader was met there by the chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Syrian state agency SANA.
The President of Syria was shown equipment deployed on the basis. In particular, Assad inspected the cabin of the Su-35 fighter, TASS reports.
Aviation Group of the Russian Air Force at the air base Khmeimim was formed 30 September 2015 by the decree of the supreme commander-in-chief, Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the airport are bombers, fighters, reconnaissance planes and transport workers, as well as military helicopters.
