Bureaucracy hinders charity in Cyprus

The charity Cans for Kids wrote an open letter to the Government of Cyprus. In it, representatives of the organization raise the issue of "paper red tape", because of which the Makarios hospital in Nicosia for more than a year can not receive a donation.

The society "Cans for Kids" donated equipment worth more than 250 000 euro to the children's hospital department. Since then more than 12 months have passed, but the necessary permits have not yet been signed by officials. Under the new rules, in addition to securities from the Ministry of Health of Cyprus, charitable organizations now require a permit from the Ministry of Finance. As representatives of society stress in their letter, this only complicated the procedure. Now the solution of each issue takes from one to three months of negotiations.
