25 years of pseudo-integration of Russians into Estonian society turned for them to "velvet" apartheid and creeping derusification. But Estonia continues in the same spirit.
The ultimate goal of the state is to get local Russian and Russian-speaking residents (a third of the country's population!) To study only in Estonian, allowing them to optionally join their native language and their own culture. That is, Russians are compelled to turn away from their ancestral homeland - Russia.
(By the way, in Soviet times Estonians studied in national schools, yes, in Soviet programs, but in native, Estonian, while studying (and not badly learned) the Russian language (the language of interethnic communication) plus foreign languages).
It's not enough to give up the mother tongue
One can dream of (through the kindergarten and school) the voluntary acquisition of the Estonian as a native language by the Russians, but in Estonia they will never accept the equality of Russians with Estonians! Because, urging Russians to live with Estonians, "forgetting about the trenches and confrontation," the vice chancellor of the Ministry of Culture of the United Arab Emirates on cultural diversityPiret Hartman(And this is not the first time in Estonia), she commented on the results of the recent monitoring of interethnic integration: "We live in a national state that must protect Estonian culture and language." Holy cause! But to the rest, it promises promising "equal opportunities in the labor market, in education, in cultural life." No more, no less, everything is equal. " The poet's dream! But all this is subject to the rejection of the Russian language as a native language.
All this is an obvious and cynical deception. For the recognition of Estonia as a national state presupposes ethnocracy and monoethnic politics. So it is in real life. Well, how can we talk about an equal dialogue between Estonians and local Russian and Russian-speaking residents, if they are not only NOT equal in today's many fundamental characteristics, but this inequality can not be eliminated while the Constitution of the Republic of Estonia guarantees the protection of Estonian culture and language, Estonian people. Not the people of Estonia, that is, all Estonians. Inequality by ethnicity is a fact recognized by the mentioned monitoring.
Is Russophobia justified by history?
The Estonian state is young. He does not yet have enough experience of interstate relations, regulation of interethnic relations within the country. In Estonia, there was no national nobility, and the officers existed for a total of only four decades, did not allow deep national roots-clasps and intelligentsia. Sometimes even the atavism of tribalism in politics and public life is noticeable.
The centuries-old foreign domination (above all, German) in the territory of the present Estonian state also explains xenophobia, according to which the country is one of the leading places in the European Union. In the last quarter of a century, this phenomenon grew into a rasophobia, by the way, now largely artificially heated and provoked. As if without it you can not create a normal state, which in this case actively and consciously would be supported by the majority of non-Estonians. And not only Russian and Russian-speaking collaborative activists imitating loyalty to the authorities today, which is becoming more and more numerous. But the sincere cooperation of non-Estonians with the authorities implies in all equal rights with the Estonians, all the so-called. successor citizens of the ER.
The childish nature of Estonian politics is affected by the small size of the state, as well as its location at the junction of the two civilizations - the Western and Russian civilizations, which is why Estonia has found itself in the unenviable role of Limitrof.
The limitations of state thinking due to circumstances had a detrimental effect also after the restoration of Estonia's independence. Worst of all, this affected the formation of civil society and the provision of inter-ethnic peace. Today, Estonian politicians live on orders from overseas, but also only in the current day, and not tomorrow, that Churchill is peculiar to real state men. As for the natural - the normalization of relations with Russia, then this alone in the country sought the only politician in the country with a state mindsetEdgar Savisaar. But he was not unsuccessfully opposed by the United States and the West as a whole, the national political elite, whose goal was to serve Washington and Brussels, and not for its people.
Is not everything in the hands of Estonians?
Today, even when the Russian and Russian-speaking part of the population, infected by the spirit of consumerism, is politically demoralized, suppressed by the Security Police, everything is in the hands of the Estonian side. But it seems that it is the Estonian society, especially the political elite and the intelligentsia, suffering from the inferior emergence of the Estonian state inferiority complex, behave towards the non-Estonians in the same arrogant and barbaric way as for many centuries the Baltic barons perceived their serfs-Estonians.
In the 21st century it seems to be wild to demonstrate cave Russophobia and anti-Russianness. Alas, all these phobias are artificially inflated by the West, and today they have taken on a global character. Obviously, this is not in the interest of the Estonian people. If the rejection of inter-ethnic equality for Estonia is still unrealistic, then Tallinn must renounce membership in the European Union.
Russian Estonia is waiting for the realization of justice and equality on paper rather than on paper, but in real life. It is foolish to blame Russia and Russians for all conceivable and unimaginable sins. Russians are not bad, they are different. And as for bad people, then for all peoples their percentage is the same.
Therefore, there is no need to "re-melt" the Russians into Estonians; only one thing is necessary: Russian and Russian-speaking must have equal rights and be law-abiding, which has long been accepted by them. And from Estonia they do not expect love, but mutual respect and equality (not even equality).
And what in fact? Just on the portal rus.Postimees.ee published two articles about the Russian Estonia. Expressive headlines: "Erkki Bakhovski: among us there are thought carriers that can lead to deportations" and "Rhine Ruutsoo: Estonia is a national state," equal "rights are demagoguery". The first is a famous columnist, the second is a social scientist, a professor at the University of Tallinn.
"Glass ceiling" is the norm?
On the same portal published an interview with the President of ERKersti KaliulaidThe Washington Post. Here is her passage: "Russia is a threat ... Some Pro-Putin radicals speak very well in Estonian ... We should not take anyone's language for the desire to share their way of thinking."
Thank you for your frankness, even if it's florid. In other words, an ultimatum has been presented to the Russians, or they are threatened for the fact that some of them are "pro-Putin", and even radicals, and, horrified, speak good Estonian. Strange logic is that Estonians "should not" become Russians, but Russian Estonians are quite. And this despite the fact that ethnic discrimination is flourishing in the country, which is denied by the authorities, politicians and the media. Moreover, ethnic inequality in Estonia is legalized. And this is in the European Union, and in the 21st century!
What is he, the "glass ceiling" of opportunities for non-Estonians? First of all, there are significant restrictions on electoral law: more than half of them do not have the right to vote in the parliamentary elections. And this is a clear advantage of Estonians in employment and wages, a humiliating discrimination of the Russian language and education in Russian, a much higher unemployment rate compared to Estonians, significantly less career development opportunities even for Russian youth who are fluent in Estonian.
And also - a refusal to the parishes of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (the largest confession in the country) in the return of their pre-war real estate to them. Among the malnourished and starving children of Estonia, and this is a quarter of their total number in the country, those who live in the "Russian-speaking" north-east of Estonia prevail. Annotations to prescription drugs have not been provided for a quarter of a century in Russian. Etc. etc.
That is why the long-suffering Tallinn monument to the Soldier-Liberator ("The Bronze Soldier"), which in its original place, which after transferring to the new one, was and remains "an island of freedom," a place of sense of honor and dignity of those considered "outsiders" and " Second-rate ". While the current generation of Russian and Russian-speaking residents who have been in the country after the last war in the country lives in the country in the second or even the third generation. And almost a tenth of Russians in Estonia, along with the Estonians, Indigenous population.
