To combat the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Lithuania, armed with anthrax

The Lithuanian press has picked up a message Belarusian ecologists that "at the edge" under construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant lies a cemetery with anthrax. Environmentalists are afraid of the fact that the infection will break out and demand to ban the construction. Close the construction site requires a long time, and Lithuania. However, the political implications of this supposedly purely environmental claims nevertheless obvious.

On Wednesday, the Lithuanian portal «Delfi» expounded a blatantly performance Belarusian scientist Georgy Lepin, delivered yesterday in Minsk at a round table on the construction of the Belarusian (Ostrovets) nuclear power plant.

As announced Georgy Lepin - physicist, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, full member of International Academy of Ecology, - close to the future nuclear power station is located cattle cemetery with anthrax.

"One of the graves of anthrax appeared at the construction site of the region, where the vast recesses occur and replacement of soil, followed by changes in groundwater flow," - said Lepine, warning that plagues spores can get into the ground water, and then - in the well the origin of the drinking water.

As an example, confirming the danger of graves, professor reminded about the outbreak of anthrax in Russia, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. Quarantined because of anthrax has been introduced in the Yamal district area in late July last year, lifted in late August. The diagnosis of "anthrax" was confirmed in 24 tundra inhabitants who ate raw deer meat. From the intestinal form of the disease 12-year-old boy died.

According sansluzhby, 505 soil foci of anthrax were registered in Belarus. The burials were conducted in 1924-1999 years. Last time diagnosis of "anthrax" person in the country put in 1995 year - in the Vitebsk region.

However, in an interview with LOOK Georgy Lepin he recognized that cattle cemetery is still not "at the edge", and a couple of kilometers from the construction. In total, they, according to the professor, near the construction site of four, and he learned about it a long time, but in no hurry to disclose information because it is considered closed. "Why is it closed - difficult to understand. Although, perhaps, the fact that they themselves do not protect the burial, there should only label and a small fence, "- said the professor.

"After the incident on the Yamal would start to limit the area of burial thirty kilometers, rather than one, as it is now, - said Lepine. - So, if we draw a radius in 30 km from the graves, the whole playground Ostrovets NPP fall into this circle. " At the same time eliminate the risk, he said, for example, to transfer the land, it is impossible, it is necessary to extract a large amount of soil that it does not spread dust, which is unrealistic.

Vilnius has long digging under Ostrowiec

Local authorities consider Lepin's gloomy forecasts exaggerated. The head of the Smorgon Veterinary Inspection Evgeniy Chiritsa, who oversees the Ostrovets district, which is cited by the Minsk portal "Naviny", confirmed the presence of only two soil sources of anthrax in the region - the dead sick animals were buried there at the beginning of the last century. Chirica stressed that this fact was taken into account when designing a nuclear power plant. Recognizing that the pockets and construction "very close", he, however, assured that no one disturbed the soil of the cemeteries, they are fenced with a moat, a fence, there is a sign with the relevant information.

"Before the construction of the nuclear power plant considered several sites carried out exploration work, the site was evaluated on various parameters. Site for Ostrowiec was recognized as the best suitable and not dangerous "- recalled the newspaper VIEW and Belarusian political analyst Alexei Dzermant. "The opinion of experts who chose the place and evaluated, it is competent. It is hardly a better platform could be found in Belarus ", - said Dzermant.

Dzermant does not exclude that the Lithuanian press did not accidentally picked up information from Lepin report because in Vilnius cling to any excuse that can be used against the construction of nuclear power plants. "Lithuania is targeted campaign against the station. The news of the cemeteries can be related to the fact that the neighbors are trying to discredit the very construction of the station ", - says Dzermant.

Lithuania for many years trying to cast doubt on the safety of the NPP. For stations already brought against many claims, however, the IAEA continues to believe the project entirely safe. Ignoring the IAEA decision, Vilnius refers to the violation of international conventions, of alleged Minsk. As the newspaper VIEW, the real reasons for countering a far more materialistic - the fact is that Vilnius hopes to build at his own Visaginas NPP.

Speaking on Wednesday in Minsk, the first deputy head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus Vasily Stepanenko again called Lithuania imposed claim to the NPP "purely political." According to him, Belarus has introduced a regular national report on the implementation of the Convention on Nuclear Safety at the meeting of Parties to the Convention at the headquarters of the IAEA in Vienna. To report received more than two hundred questions, one third of whom one asked Lithuania.

Professor Lepine avoided answering the question paper VIEW, not whether there is another element in his statement to the Lithuanian authorities' campaign to discredit the project. But hostility to the project for a long time professor does not hide. Previously, he publicly expressed doubt even in the seismic safety of the construction site, since 1908 year happened here Gudogayskoe earthquake, estimated at 6-7 on the Richter scale.

However, the information is now Lepin intends to use and the parliamentary opposition in Belarus. As stated at the end of the roundtable member of the House of Representatives Anna Konopatskaya (United Civil Party), new arguments against the establishment of nuclear power plants are the reason for the parliamentary hearings.
