Egyptian parliamentarians voted to ratify the agreement with Riyadh on the demarcation of the maritime border, thus endorsing the transfer of Saudi Arabia to the two disputed islands of Tiran and Sanafir in the Red Sea.
A message about this is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Al-Hadas TV channel.
The agreement between Egypt and Saudi Arabia was signed more than a year ago and triggered a storm of discontent and a series of trials in Egypt. At the same time, Riyadh warned that if the parliament refuses to ratify the treaty, the kingdom will file an action against Cairo in the international court.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Qatari television channel Al Jazeera reported that in the Egyptian capital in connection with the upcoming vote there were protests that resulted in a clash of demonstrators with the police.
