The European Union (EU) has provided Greece with emergency aid of € 209 million for the temporary accommodation and resettlement of migrants. This was reported on Thursday by the European Commission (EC). Migrants are sent through Turkey to the countries of Western and Northern Europe and stop in camps on the territory of Greece.
"Europe is solidarity, and that is what means the decision to allocate aid," European Commissioner for Migration, Internal Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos said in this regard.
Of these funds, € 93,5 million are intended to provide rental housing for 22 thousand migrants. Another € 57,6 million will go to ensure their social needs, the rest will be transferred to non-governmental organizations that provide refugees with essential goods.
