Cyprus is the third among the EU countries in terms of food waste per capita - after the Netherlands and Belgium. These data are presented in a recent publication of the European Commission.
According to the report, the highest in the EU's annual food waste figures per capita in the Netherlands (541 kg), Belgium (345 kg) and Cyprus (327 kg). The country with the least amount of food waste has become Slovenia (72 kg).
It is estimated that in the EU emitted 88 million tons of food each year (an average of 173 kg per capita).
The Commission recommends reducing the volume of food waste in the EU by year 2025 30%, and to 2030 year - twice.
