Cyprus and Egypt in the near future will be ready to sign an agreement on laying an underwater gas pipeline directly from the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Cyprus to a gas-fired plant in Egypt. This was reported by Foreign Minister Nikos Christodulides, who 10 April was a working visit to Egypt. He stressed the brilliant prospects that are opening for cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy.
"We expect that in the near future our countries will be ready to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of an underwater gas pipeline from the Cyprus EEZ to the LNG terminal in Egypt. At the moment, all the parties involved in this project are discussing the terms of the gas supply and hopefully soon we will get positive results, "Christodoulidis said in an interview with the Egyptian media.
The visit of the head of the Cyprus Foreign Ministry to Egypt should prepare a visit to the President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis. During his stay in Egypt, Christodoulides will discuss bilateral relations between countries, tripartite cooperation between Cyprus, Egypt and Greece, energy issues, the Cyprus problem, relations between Egypt and the EU, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and regional problems.
