Cyprus does not recognize the declaration of independence by Catalonia

The Cypriot authorities said on Wednesday that the Republic does not recognize the unilateral declaration of independence by Catalonia in violation of the Spanish Constitution. Declaration of Independence Catalan President Carles Puicdemont signed 10 October.

"Cyprus firmly confirms its continued support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Spain and expresses its solidarity with the government and people of Spain," the presidential palace said in a statement.

"Cyprus emphasizes that the most reasonable is to seek a solution to the crisis through a peaceful and orderly dialogue in full accordance with the Constitution of the country," the Cypriot media quoted the statement.

Recall, a plebiscite on the independence of Catalonia took place 1 October. More than 90 percent of voters supported the withdrawal of the region from Spain.
