Cyprus settlement given time till summer

UN Special Adviser for Cyprus Espen Barth Eide said that "positive developments" in the negotiations must be made before the summer. He also added that this time failure in the talks could be crucial.

UN envoy set a deadline in June, taking into account the forthcoming elections in the Republic of Cyprus and the drilling in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus.

Eide also expressed a neutral position relative to the "freezing" of negotiations, and added that "before the parties have made significant progress." At this point, according to the politician, future negotiations depends solely on the leaders of the two communities of Cyprus.
