The Cabinet of Ministers intends to approve at its next meeting the opening of the Saudi Embassy in Cyprus. According to official figures, Saudi Arabia has officially filed a request to the Government of Cyprus to open an embassy in Nicosia. It is expected that the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Cyprus will be positive, reports The Cyprus Mail.
Recall that last month, the first official visit of Cyprus President Nikos Anastasiadis to Saudi Arabia since the establishment of the Republic in 1960. At the moment, Saudi Arabia is represented in Cyprus only through the ambassador in Athens. In turn, Cyprus opened the embassy in Saudi Arabia back in 2015.
During the visit of Nicos Anastasiadis to Riyadh, both countries signed a number of bilateral agreements, including the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion. A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed on political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.
