In the period from 2016 to 2017 year the number of fires in Cyprus decreased by more than 10%. At the same time, nine out of ten fires were caused by a man. This is stated in the statement of the Fire Service of Cyprus 9 February.
A noticeable reduction in the incidence of fire was recorded in April last year. Due to the ban on lighting bonfires during the celebration of Easter, the number of fires in the spring decreased by 32,35%.
In December, the fire service, on the contrary, registered an increase in the number of incidents by 74,36%. However, the main reason experts called the lack of precipitation, and not human activities.
In total, during the 2017 year, Cyprus fire services received 10 677 calls, the statement said.
