From 23 on 26 October at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia will be held conference The International Military Sports Council, to which the military arrived from 42 countries in Europe. It is one of the largest interdisciplinary sports organizations in the world. In 19.30, the opening of the forum will be delivered by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus, Christoforos Fokaidis. The motto of the CISM 2017 conference is "Friendship through Sport".

The International Military Sports Council (CISM) is an international military non-profit sports organization, founded 18 February 1948. Its headquarters is in Brussels. It is considered the most influential sports organization in the world after the International Olympic Committee. It includes 136 countries. He is the organizer of the most important international sports events, including Military World Games and World Military Cup.

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus, the fact that the conference is held in Nicosia "is a confirmation of the increased prestige enjoyed by the armed forces of Cyprus in Europe."

The decision to hold a forum in Nicosia was taken two years ago in the context of the reconstruction of the National Security Council. After a period of inactivity, the Council recently developed a "multifaceted action plan", which includes:

  • the creation of national army teams for basketball, volleyball and handball,
  • the modernization of sports facilities in army camps,
  • training soldiers of the National Guard martial arts,
  • participation in international military competitions.
