The German parliament approved the law on the legalization of same-sex marriages

At a meeting on Friday, the Bundestag approved by a majority of votes the legalization of same-sex marriages.

This law was put to the vote by the Social Democratic Party in conjunction with the Left Party and the "green" party. Against the members of the conservative bloc led by Chancellor Angela Merkel, Tass reports.

"As for the issue of marriage, my belief is that in the sixth article of the Basic Law, there is a marriage between a man and a woman. And this conviction has led to that, I believe that we should take this issue, about the possibility of same-sex marriage, as a "decision on conscience". For me, marriage in the Basic Law is a marriage between a man and a woman, and so today I voted against this bill, "Merkel quotes RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany Gunther Krings said that the adoption of a single law for the legalization of same-sex marriages would not be enough. It will be necessary to amend the German constitution.
