Presidents of Russia and the United States Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump greeted each other during a photo-taking ceremony at the APEC summit in Vietnam.
The leaders of the two powers stood side by side at the photographing ceremony. Trump himself approached the Russian president who was already there. Having greeted each other, they smiled and shook hands for a few seconds, RIA Novosti reports.
The spokesman for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that there were no conversations as such between the two heads of state on the sidelines of the summit, they only welcomed each other.
Earlier it became known that the planned formal meeting of the two leaders would not take place, but they could communicate "on their feet".
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the reasons for refusing the meeting should be asked "American officials".
