Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu said at a "government hour" in the Federation Council that Russian naval forces have nine strategic submarines and are constantly patrolling the world's oceans.
As the minister noted, the planned re-equipment of Russia's maritime nuclear forces for the newest nuclear submarine cruisers of the Borey class is being carried out, RIA Novosti reports.
The general also said that in order to increase the effectiveness of the administration, the coastal troops pass to the organizational structure of the army corps: three corps has already been formed at the Northern (SF), Baltic (BF) and Black Sea Fleets (BSF), Tass reports.
In addition, Shoigu said that Ukraine, Syria and the Korean peninsula are strategically important regions for Russia.
According to the minister, in the conditions of growing tension in the world, "close cooperation between the Defense Ministry and the relevant committees of the Federation Council" is especially topical, which "contributes to the prompt resolution of problem issues in the defense sphere and the improvement of the quality of the army and navy."
Recall, the Russian Navy includes three submarines of the Borey project: "Yuri Dolgoruky" is a part of the Northern Fleet, and "Vladimir Monomakh" and "Alexander Nevsky" - the Pacific. Another five submarines are at different stages of construction. A series of nuclear submarines of the project 955A "Borey-A" will be completed after the creation of the eighth submarine - "Prince Pozharsky."
In addition, the Russian Navy includes six nuclear submarines of the project 667BDRM "Dolphin", armed with R-29RMU2 missiles "Sineva" and R-29RMU2.1 "Liner".
