Activists from Latvia was timed to the Victory Day original action: they want to celebrate together with the military stationed in the republic from the former anti-Hitler coalition, and remind them of how their ancestors shoulder to shoulder with the Russian fought with the Nazis, marching today in Riga. Whether or not anti-Russian propaganda, which is stuffed NATO military can dispel?
Representatives of the Latvian unregistered party For Their Mother tongue made a bold initiative to remind the soldiers and officers of all NATO countries about the brotherhood in arms that developed between the opponents of Nazism during the Second World War. To this end, a special English-language site Homeland404 was launched, with the target audience of representatives of military units of NATO countries stationed in the Baltic States. A special emphasis is placed on Canadians, as they form the basis of the North Atlantic contingent in Latvia. The text of the appeal to guests in the form, compiled by the well-known opposition activist Vladimir Linderman, in particular, reads:
"We were allies during the Second World War, our ancestors together beat the Nazis. Many of you remember about it. I recently went on the train to Jurmala, next to the company sat English tourists, men 30-40 years. I showed them the window monument to Soviet soldiers who liberated Belarus from the Nazis. All of them, as if on cue, stood up, pulled out a bottle of whiskey and we drank together for the our common victory, and for those who did not return from the war. But you are here today not as tourists, but as soldiers. Ask yourself - why? Russia is not going to attack the Baltic countries. It's a lie. "
According to Linderman, the Baltic nationalists fuel a tantrum against Russia in order to have a good reason to discriminate against local Russians: "Did they tell you that the Russians who were born and raised in Latvia and Estonia were denied the citizenship of these countries and they can not vote in the elections? That the Russian language, which is native to 35% of the population, is considered "foreign"? That every year 16 March in the center of Riga is a solemn march of former SS men and their young fans? I think you were not told about this. But you must know this. Military NATO came to defend regimes that are nostalgic for times of Nazism and fascism, from Russia, which is not going to attack. You are in a bad situation. You have been the victim of deception of politicians. You must understand that people in Russia are worried when they see NATO troops concentrating on the borders of the Russian Federation. For Russians it's like a new Hitler preparing an attack. Russia is compelled to seek an answer to this threat, and the world is moving to a new war in which there will be no winners, there will only be millions of corpses. But it's not too late to stop. We can find a common language and understanding in the memory of the past. "
Therefore, the Russian-speaking activists invited Alliance soldiers serving in Latvia come 9 of May, the Day of Victory over the Nazis, a monument to Soviet soldiers in Riga. "There in the day hundreds of thousands of people come every year to honor the winners. Will share the "Immortal regiment", where people come with portraits of their relatives who fought with the Nazis. Your ancestors also fought with the Nazis, so come, you will be happy! "- calls on the text conversion.
"Arrow" and "Saber"
There have been many military NATO in the Baltic countries in recent years. As recently as 30 April in Adazi, that is near Riga, the international exercises of the alliance Summer Shield XIV, covering more than 1200 military personnel, were completed. The maneuvers, which lasted for two weeks, involved representatives of the armed forces of Latvia, the United States, Bulgaria, Estonia, Canada, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovakia, Germany and the non-alliance of Sweden. This year, the skills of combat support for a wide spectrum were worked out-the interaction of artillery, air defense, reconnaissance, protection from weapons of mass destruction and anti-tank systems. The exercises also touched upon military engineers, military doctors and transport units.
In the near future, the maneuvers of the alliance in Latvia will be held more than once. In particular, with 5 on 16 June, the annual drills of the headquarters and units of the battalion level of the land and air forces Saber Strike ("Shoot of the Sword") are planned. They will be trained in operations management and unit interaction. In summer, annual international Open Spirit teachings will be held. Their goal is the search and neutralization of unexploded ordnance that survived in the waters of the Baltic Sea since the First and Second World Wars. In the fall Sudraba Bulta ("Silver Arrow") maneuvers will be held, organized directly by Latvia to improve the command of infantry units and their interaction with NATO allies.
Accommodation in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia new multinational NATO battalion is currently nearing completion. The backbone of the contingent in Latvia, as already noted, Canada introduced, in Lithuania - Germany, Estonia - United Kingdom. Also there are French, German, Spanish, Slovak, Polish. In addition, in the region since 2014 years within Atlantic Resolve operation ( "Atlantic determination") are US soldiers.
"In these sentiments have to catch"
In an interview with the newspaper VIEW Vladimir Linderman said that the idea to address all of these "international brigade" lying on the surface. This kind "information carrot" in addition to "information whip". "Russian media tend to portray the NATO army, arrived in the Baltic states, a sort of rowdy rabble who drinks, fights, stick to the women boldly violates the rules of the road, in short, in every way rude. It is assumed that the population of the Baltic States is troubled by these outrages, "- he recalled.
Indeed, in recent times the Russian and Russian-language press of the Baltic has been eagerly writing about the state of emergency involving NATO soldiers. Thus, at the beginning of the year Lithuanian police detained five drunken Czechs in Klaipeda uniform, who fought a fight with local youth near one of the city's nightclubs. In March 2016-th group of drunken American soldiers so actively rested in the water park of the Lithuanian city of Druskininkai that one of the military broke through a protective wall separating the recreation and entertainment zones. In May of the same year, the relations between the German army deployed in Rukla and the local resident developed into a scuffle.
In Riga in June 2016, four British soldiers, being in a state of intoxication, damaged the taxi car by arranging dances on its roof. At the same time it became known that the local investigative authorities are dealing with a case of a serious accident, the culprit in which 2015 became an American serviceman. In it, five people were injured, including the Russian pilot of the rally Vasily Gryazin, who started flying under the Latvian flag. No less sensational case occurred in Riga last fall: for a young Latvian named Aizkalns, a visit to McDonald's ended in an attack by a British soldier and a broken nose.
According to Linderman, striving to portray soldiers visiting a bunch of hooligans and brawlers unproductive. "Russian residents of the Baltic countries to NATO people are not bad for their everyday behavior (cases excesses few actually), but because they perceive their stay in the region as a threat to the Russian Federation, as a provocation of war. As for the representatives of the titular nation - Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians, the majority of them for the presence of NATO troops. And no special incident their relationship will not change, "- said the activist.
He emphasizes that the most effective way to try to influence Canadians or Britons. "You can if you do not convince you, then at least to sow doubt. I ran through the Canadian Forum on the Internet, where they discussed sending his soldiers to Latvia. There's a good half of the commentators or against, or fluctuates. In the countries of "old" Europe, the US, Canada, a large number of citizens do not see the enemy in modern Russia. Not because he loves Russia, but simply does not see the real, not sucked from the finger reason for hostility. It is for these attitudes need to catch, "- says Linderman.
"Repression? We are accustomed "
The action is addressed to the soldiers of the NATO countries that are already in the Baltic countries, or are going to come here. But not only. "Indirectly, we refer also to their family, friends, even to the citizens of these countries. Our task - to convey to them the truth, which consists of only two points. First, Russia has no plans to capture the Baltic. Secondly, the capacity of NATO forces on the borders of Russia to provoke a world war, in which there will be winners. Yes, we hope that these simple ideas will reach the addressee ", - says Linderman.
He draws attention to the fact that military service in a number of Western countries is often something of a social elevator - with its help a person from a poor family makes a leap to the middle class. "These are not" kreakly ", they are simple guys who need to explain in an extremely simple language: the Russians do not want to fight, they have already fought for their history. But if you have, then you will not find it. Of course, they are not told that they discriminate against Russians in Latvia and Estonia, about problems with citizenship, language, the cult of the members of the Waffen SS Legion, and so on. They are programmed narrowly: Putin has already seized the Crimea, now he is going to seize the Baltic states, your duty is to prevent this. I read in the Canadian newspaper an interview with an officer who is preparing to be sent to Latvia. He says: we will have to take the first blow, not let the Russians go deep, and then help comes, "the activist said.
In his opinion, it is important to understand that this is not Hitler's army, welded ideological fanaticism, of which collapsed Soviet propaganda attempts to win the soldiers over to their side. "These are ordinary guys without any particular ideology, they simply want to advance in life. They are not without memory. I do not know how in the US and Canada, but in Britain remained a cult of heroes who participated in World War II. At least, this cult is maintained at the family level. That the bridge that connects us ", - said Linderman.
Party "For the native language", which owns shares of the initiative, currently banned, but in an informal, semi-underground level continues. "Latvian special services still silent, I think they confused a few unexpected approach. They are no longer counted, that we start to label Canadians arriving thugs and drug addicts, and we invite them to celebrate together the Victory Day. Repression? Well, swat site zavedut any regular business from scratch ... We are accustomed ", - he concluded the activist.
