The United States notified UNESCO of the withdrawal from this organization, the State Department announced.
Washington explained this step in arrears on membership fees, the need for reform of the organization and "anti-Israel bias." The decision will come into force on 31 December, with the United States retaining observer status in the organization.
UNESCO head Irina Bokova expressed regret over the decision of Washington, which Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told her.
UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for education, science and culture. The organization was established in 1945 year, its headquarters is located in Paris. UNESCO consists of almost two hundred states.
