President of the United States Donald Trump called the World Trade Organization (WTO) a "catastrophe".
"The WTO is a disaster," Trump told reporters. According to him, the WTO "makes it almost impossible to do business for the United States." In particular, he said, "the United States is losing a lot of money in favor of Mexico and Canada."
Trump has for years been critical of the WTO, as well as international trade agreements, such as the North American Free Trade Area (NAFTA).
The Trump Administration is considering withdrawing from a number of trade agreements and sharply raising import duties, including steel and aluminum.
