The so-called "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" called on Jorgos Lakkotripis, Minister of Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism of the Republic of Cyprus, to sit down at the negotiating table to discuss the issue of hydrocarbon production and to promote the rapprochement of the parties in the unification of Cyprus.
This was stated by the "energy minister" pseudo state Ozdil Nami on the air of the Bayrak television channel, noting that he is ready to meet with Lakotripis under the auspices of the United Nations or in any other format and discuss everything "as civilized people".
He also accused the Greek Cypriot side of using hydrocarbon extraction as a way of pressure on Turkey. At the same time, revenues from the exploitation of deposits can be sent to a special fund to finance the future solution of the Cyprus issue, Nami added.
Turkey, like the Turkish Cypriots, has legal rights to hydrocarbons in the sea around the island, the "minister" stressed. "On the one hand, the Greek Cypriot side has signed agreements to its advantage with companies from [the United States] of America, France and Italy and is trying to keep these agreements, but as soon as the situation becomes tense, it redirects the EU question and asks for support," Nami said. . "In a similar way, we are cooperating with Turkey, protecting our interests."
