The Ukrainian authorities have reached an agreement with Westinghouse on the construction of the country's nuclear fuel plant, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of the country Igor Nasalik at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
"We agreed on the diversification of supplies almost half the nuclear units and agreed to build a nuclear fuel plant in Ukraine", - he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
The Minister said that these agreements were reached during his recent trip to the United States.
Nasalik reminded that currently the Russian Federation provides supplies almost 95% of nuclear fuel for Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
As reported, in order to diversify sources of supply of nuclear fuel for Ukrainian nuclear power plants "Energoatom" together Westinghouse in 2000, began implementation of the project qualification fuel this company.
In March 2008 year, "Energoatom" signed with Westinghouse Electric Sweden (Sweden) commercial contract to provide in-2011 2015's fresh nuclear fuel from three to six Ukrainian NPPs with VVER-1000. In 2014, the parties agreed to expand and extend it to 2020 years.
Currently, nuclear fuel Westinghouse operated on the block №3 South Ukrainian NPP and Zaporizhzhya №5 block. As of December 2016, the planned loading of fuel assemblies into the block-WR №2 South-Ukrainian NPP.
Westinghouse in late April 2016 year announced the expansion of the enterprise for the production of nuclear fuel in Vasteras (Sweden) to meet growing supplies for VVER-1000 Russian design in Ukraine and other Eastern European countries.
Vice-President and Managing Director Dag Westinghouse Aziz in an interview to "Interfax" reported that, according to the contract, it is planned to put TVS-WR on two of the three blocks of the South-Ukrainian NPP (№2 and №3) and four of the six units at the Zaporizhzhya NPP (№1 and №3-5). According to him, "Energoatom" also has an option to expand the supply, in addition to these stations, the Khmelnytsky and Rivne nuclear power plants, each of which has two units of VVER-1000.
"Energoatom" is the operator of all four of NPP. Exploits 15 units equipped with VVER total installed electric capacity GW 13,835.
