Died Vitaly Churkin

Russian Foreign Ministry said the death of the permanent representative of Russia to the UN Vitaly Churkin.

The representative of the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq said that he was shocked by the news of the death of Russia's ambassador to the organization Vitaly Churkin, he expressed condolences to the family of a diplomat and the Russian government.

According to The New York Post, Churkin died because of heart problems.

In 1992 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, in this post he served until 1994 year. In 1994-1998 was Russian ambassador to Belgium and permanent representative of Russia to NATO. In 1998-2003 years Churkin was the Russian ambassador in Canada.

Churkin served as Russia's ambassador to the UN in April 8 2008 years. During his work at the UN, he firmly defended Russia's position, repeatedly used the veto.
