In order to allow marriages between people of the same sex in Germany, it is necessary to amend the constitution, the German Interior Ministry believes.
Only under the condition of changing the constitution it is possible to introduce "marriage for all" in the country, stated Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany Gunther Krings in an interview with the newspaper Die Welt.
In the 6 article of the German Constitution, marriage is defined as a union of a man and a woman. To change this provision, a simple law is not enough. It is necessary to amend the basic law of the country, which will require the votes of two-thirds of the Bundesrat and the Bundestag.
30 June in the Bundestag, a vote on the law on "marriage for all" is planned. The factions of the SPD, the "green" and the Left Party plan to vote for, and the CDU / CSU faction wants to exclude the issue altogether from the agenda. German Chancellor Angela Merkel 26 June said that if such a law is considered in parliament, deputies from the CDU can vote according to their convictions, reports DW.
Recall, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill previously said that the laws passed in a number of Western countries on the resolution of homosexual marriages cause the same indignation of people as, in their time, the laws of fascist Germany.
