The suicide bomber blew up a car packed with explosives in Damascus, 20 people became victims of the terrorist attack, dozens were injured, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a letter sent to the UN.
The explosion occurred in the Bab Tuma quarter, Rambler News Service reported citing SANA.
In total, three explosions were planned by terrorists, but Syria's security forces managed to prevent two more attacks - cars were destroyed at the entrance to the Syrian capital, RIA Novosti reports.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry stresses in a letter that the terrorists stepped up before the inter-Syrian talks in Astana and Geneva, as was the case before.
In addition, the Syrian authorities draw attention to the fact that before the attacks there were attacks on Damascus from the US and false reports about the alleged use of chemical weapons by government forces.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the purpose of those threats was "to create conditions for such immoral acts" of militants.
Syria called for a united effort in the fight against terrorists and condemned those who perpetrate militants.
Recall, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced the launch of an information and propaganda campaign about the alleged "use of chemical weapons by Damascus." The diplomat warned that there would be a lot of fakes, since "the campaign is planned for a large scale."
