As a result of the collision of the US Navy missile destroyer John McCain of the Arly Burke type with the Alnic MC tanker in the Malacca Strait area, ten sailors disappeared, five more were injured, the press service of the Seventh Fleet of the US Navy reported.
As specified in the press service, the ship is moving to the port on its own power, TASS reports.
They also added that in the rescue operation after the collision, US MV-22 Osprey converters and SH-60 Sea Hawk multipurpose helicopters from the America amphibious assault ship, as well as tugboats and the Singapore Navy are involved.
After the collision in the Seventh Fleet, the US Navy promised to conduct an investigation.
Commenting on the incident, the chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, Republican Senator John McCain, in honor of his father and grandfather was named the destroyer, promised to pray for the sailors. He wrote about this on his Twitter.
US President Donald Trump, in turn, called the incident "very bad", without going into details, RIA Novosti reported.
