Deputy Chief of Police of Cyprus has resigned

On Monday, 15 May President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades has taken the decision to dismiss Andreas Kyriakou from the post of the deputy chief of police.

This decision was followed after Attorney General Kostas Kleridis initiated an investigation into two cases of confidential information leakage. The main suspect in both cases was now named former deputy police chief.

According to the laws of the Republic of Cyprus, the maximum penalty for the leak of information - one year in prison and / or a fine of EUR 1700.

New Deputy Police Cyprus appointed Kipros Michaelides. Today, he is sworn in at the Presidential Palace.
