The Cypriot runner Eleni Artimata has won "gold" in the Mediterranean games, which take place in the Spanish city of Tarragona. The athlete ran faster than all the distance 400 meters with the result of 51,19 seconds, setting a new national record.
Cyprus has been participating in the Mediterranean Games since 1983. Eleni became the first Cypriot to win the "gold" in the three Games (previously she celebrated the success in Almeria-2009 and Mersin-2013).
Representatives of 26 countries take part in competitions in Tarragona. In the team event, Cyprus goes to 11 place with five medals: three gold, one silver and one bronze. Four of five awards were won by gymnast Marios Gheorghiu.
