A large-scale program of events dedicated to the Victory Day, was launched in the Republic of Cyprus on Saturday. As the correspondent of TASS reported from the scene, she was opened by a concert of the exemplary orchestra of the troops of the national guard of the Russian Federation.
The festive concert was held at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Andrew the Apostle and all the Saints, in the Russian land, shining in the vicinity of the capital of the country of the city of Nicosia. The concert was attended by representatives of the administration of the President and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Cypriot church hierarchs, Metropolitan Volokolamsky, Chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the ROC Ilarion, ambassadors and military attachés of more than 10 countries.
"Holding such actions makes an invaluable contribution to the protection of Russia's objective image, the consolidation of the Russian-speaking diaspora, the promotion of the historical truth about the role of our country in the victory over Nazism. This is extremely important, especially today, when attempts are made to distort and falsify history, equalize torturers and war victims, the role of our country in the defeat of fascism, "- said the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Cyprus Stanislav Osadchy.
According to him, the tragedy of World War II is the main lesson of the 20th century. "Unfortunately, the ideas of racial superiority and the exclusiveness of a nation periodically gain new life in the minds of individual politicians, but we, as descendants of the winners, will no doubt be able to give a worthy response to modern challenges and threats," the Russian ambassador added.
As organizers of the event noted in a conversation with the TASS correspondent, it is noteworthy that for the first time in modern history the celebration of the Victory Day in a foreign country is held under the patronage of the head of state - the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis.
As the TASS correspondent was told in the Russian Center of Culture and Science on the island, the solemn events will be held in the main cities of Cyprus from 5 on 9 May.
